They’re Building Things Over There #32 and #33

Great news! Construction at Union Station is progressing so swiftly the project’s completion date has been moved up a month to April 2014 from May 2014.

The concrete floors of the bus terminal are almost completely poured and the walls of the terminal are taking shape.  They expect to begin pouring the walls later this week.  Work on the light rail station is progressing as well; a row of 22 foundations has been built for the canopy at the passenger platform.

A Taste of Colorado

We celebrate the 4th of July by eating a lot…might as well do the same for Labor Day!

A Taste of Colorado runs from September 3 – September 6th at Civic Center Park. Admission is free and the event will showcase more than 50 of Colorado’s favorite food establishments. In addition to the food, visitors can enjoy more than 270 marketplace artisans and vendors, six music stages, children’s performers as well as educational programs.

K-9s Against Cancer 5k Walk/Run

Grab your best furry friend and join the K-9s Against Cancer 5k run/1 mile walk on Sunday, September 12th. Support the CSU Animal Cancer Center, The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation and Foothills Animal Shelter all while enjoying a fun, family-oriented day of food, live demonstrations, great music, prizes and great giveaways!

Opening Exhibit Reception, Lessons Learned

On Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 5:30-8:00 pm join the youth from PlatteForum’s ArtLab, who collaborated with Metropolitan State College of Denver, Communication Design students, as they open their new exhibition Lessons Learned – A Denver Pop-Up Store.

This is a short-term retail exhibition that houses products—found objects—designed and packaged by the high school and college students. Personal narratives of each youth were woven into the design process, re-conceptualizing the products for the pop-up store.

The interactive exhibit invites the public to experience the products on display, share their own life stories, and offer lessons of their own. With multiple products ranging from vials of patience and “formitables”—oven mitts and chop sticks to help you take the hard road; there is a lesson for everyone to learn.

This is the second year ArtLab interns have collaborated with Metro State as part of the national initiative, Design Ignites Change. Proceeds from the sale of these products will support next year’s design partnership with Metro State.

The latest on the Railyard Dog Park?

The sprinkler system and all irrigation is now 100% complete as of Friday.  The Shade Sail structure and year long fabric canopy is up and ready to block the sun. The first round of engraved bricks, that our wonderful dog park supporters purchased, is due to arrive on Monday and will begin installation soon thereafter.  Also beginning on Monday, they will begin planting trees and spreading the cedar mulch and rock.  Once the picnic tables arrive they will be installed in the pavilion area and the pavestone pavers will be finished up around them.

Huge strides are being made and an opening date should be announced shortly!

So far, over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete have been poured to create six sections of the bus terminal floor.  And while work continues on the floor, the bus terminal walls have already begun to sprout up. Progress is being made over at Union Station and Rick has all the details and pictures to prove it.  Click here for the latest update.
