Opening Exhibit Reception, Lessons Learned

On Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 5:30-8:00 pm join the youth from PlatteForum’s ArtLab, who collaborated with Metropolitan State College of Denver, Communication Design students, as they open their new exhibition Lessons Learned – A Denver Pop-Up Store.
This is a short-term retail exhibition that houses products—found objects—designed and packaged by the high school and college students. Personal narratives of each youth were woven into the design process, re-conceptualizing the products for the pop-up store.
The interactive exhibit invites the public to experience the products on display, share their own life stories, and offer lessons of their own. With multiple products ranging from vials of patience and “formitables”—oven mitts and chop sticks to help you take the hard road; there is a lesson for everyone to learn.
This is the second year ArtLab interns have collaborated with Metro State as part of the national initiative, Design Ignites Change. Proceeds from the sale of these products will support next year’s design partnership with Metro State.

I’ve asked myself that question too, but never really saw people actually bringing gifts to the exhibition. though it might be a nice gesture to send a card afterwards thanking for the invitation and telling how much you enjoyed it (some artists have a book at the exhibition that you can leave a message in; it is highly appreciated if you do so).Thanks.

Hi,
For an art opening, it’s fun to dress up because this is where you get to be creative. You want to look “artsy” but not too busy. Here are some options:
A fairly simple outfit, with one amazing piece of jewelry (like a huge ring, or great necklace. It can be an old or new piece of jewelry, the kind that will be a “conversation piece”.
A great outfit, like a print dress with some funky shoes (and very simple jewelry)
A simple outfit with a great shawl or colorful scarf
You don’t need to spend anything either; you probably have lots you could wear. Think either a great color or a great piece. Have fun!!!
