It’s crucial to see a before and after picture of Riverfront Park to fully understand its transformation from a barren stockyard by the Platte River to one of Denver’s most desired urban communities. So, here’s your chance. Before East West Partners bought the land that is now Riverfront Park, it was a mound of dirt where railway tracks lay and trains passed. It was occupied by Denver’s homeless and literally known as the “wrong side of the tracks”. Ideally located to the heart of downtown Denver, it was, and is, the perfect space for an urban development. Within a decade, East West Partners, along with a slew of other visionaries, transformed the lower portion of downtown Denver from a run down, less-than-desirable piece of land to an upscale, walk-to-everything community. If you look at the two aerial maps, you can truly see the difference. That barren plot of land is now home to the Pepsi Center, LoDo, the Millennium Bridge, Riverfront Park, Commons Park, the Skate Park, Coors Field, over 300 shops and restaurants, Lower Highlands, REI, The Denver Performing Arts Center and much, much more. Just imagine what the next aerial map will look like once the Union Station Neighborhood is under way and close to completion. A comparison of the three will show Denver’s progression as a city from a western train stop in the 1930s to a forward-thinking metropolis.
